Introduction

Hi, I’m Rachel, founder of The Growth Review.

I’m an accountant by qualification (CGMA ACMA, BSc Accounting, Business Finance and Management) , but my career has always been about much more than producing accounts or reporting historical numbers.

For over a decade I’ve worked in commercial finance, partnering with business owners and leadership teams to help them understand performance, solve problems and make confident business decisions.

I’ve always been fascinated by how businesses work.

Not just the numbers, but the people behind them, the decisions that drive them and the challenges that come with running them.

Throughout my career I’ve been fortunate to work across a wide variety of commercial projects, helping businesses improve profitability, review pricing, forecast future growth, analyse investment opportunities, strengthen reporting and make better strategic decisions.

The more experience I’ve gained, the more I’ve realised something.

Large businesses often have Commercial Directors, Finance Directors and specialist teams helping them make important decisions.

Most small businesses don’t.

Yet they’re often the businesses making the biggest decisions with the least support.

That’s exactly why I created The Growth Review.

To give business owners access to experienced commercial support that is practical, approachable and genuinely focused on helping them move their business forward.

Principles

What I believe

I believe every business owner should understand their business beyond the numbers.

I believe reports should lead to action.

I believe advice should be practical, not full of jargon.

I believe business support should feel like a conversation, not a lecture.

Most importantly, I believe good commercial decisions shouldn’t only be available to businesses with large budgets and in-house finance teams.

Whether your business is just starting out or preparing for its next stage of growth, everyone deserves access to experienced commercial support that helps them make better decisions.

My experience

During my career I’ve worked across a broad range of commercial finance and business improvement projects, supporting businesses through growth, change and everyday decision-making.

Some of the areas I’ve worked on include:

Commercial Finance Business Partnering

Working closely with leadership teams to turn financial information into meaningful commercial decisions that support business growth.

Pricing Strategy

Reviewing pricing structures, analysing customer behaviour and understanding the impact pricing decisions have on profitability and long-term growth.

Profitability Analysis

Helping businesses understand where profits are really generated by looking beyond turnover and identifying opportunities to improve margins.

Business Performance

Designing meaningful reporting that helps businesses understand what’s driving performance and where improvements can be made.

Financial Modelling & Forecasting

Building financial models and forecasts to support investment decisions, future planning and sustainable business growth.

Cash Flow & Working Capital

Helping businesses understand the relationship between profit, cash and day-to-day financial performance.

Reporting & KPI Development

Creating reporting that gives business owners clear, relevant information they can actually use to make decisions.

Investment Appraisal

Supporting significant business decisions by assessing financial viability, commercial risk and long-term return.

Business Growth

Helping businesses prepare for expansion, new opportunities and future investment by providing commercial insight and structured planning.

Process Improvement

Reviewing business processes to improve efficiency, visibility and decision-making.

Strategic Planning

Supporting leadership teams to step back from the day-to-day running of the business and focus on long-term priorities.

In practice

Some of the questions I’ve helped businesses answer

Every business is different, but these are the types of conversations I regularly have with clients.

“Can we actually afford to recruit someone?”

Understanding the financial impact before making a long-term commitment.

“We’re growing quickly, but why doesn’t it feel like it?”

Looking beyond turnover to understand profitability, capacity and where growth is creating pressure.

“How do we know if we’re charging enough?”

Reviewing pricing, costs and commercial performance to ensure the business remains profitable.

“Should we invest in bigger premises?”

Helping businesses understand whether expansion makes commercial sense now or whether there are alternative options to consider first.

“We’re constantly busy but never seem to get ahead.”

Stepping back to identify what’s really driving performance, where time is being lost and which improvements will create the biggest impact.

“Which parts of our business are actually making money?”

Using meaningful analysis to understand where profit is generated and where improvements could be made.

“We’ve got lots of ideas but don’t know where to start.”

Helping business owners prioritise opportunities based on commercial impact rather than instinct alone.

Approach

Why clients choose to work with me

Clients don’t work with me because I know how to build a spreadsheet.

They work with me because I help them understand what the spreadsheet is telling them.

I ask questions.

I challenge assumptions.

I explain things in plain English.

I provide honest recommendations.

And I’m genuinely invested in helping businesses make better decisions.

My aim is never to impress you with technical language.

It’s to give you clarity, confidence and practical advice that you can actually use.

Personally

A little about me

Outside of work I’m a wife, mum to two young children and someone who enjoys spending time with family, discovering independent businesses and, perhaps unsurprisingly, talking about business ideas whenever I get the chance.

I understand first-hand how difficult it can be to balance competing priorities and make important decisions when time is limited.

That’s probably why my approach is always centred around making things simpler.

Helping you focus on what matters.

Helping you understand your business.

Helping you move forward with confidence.

Because whilst numbers are important…

It’s the decisions you make because of them that really shape your business.
